With October being awareness month for breast cancer, Charles V. Pledger, MD wants to remind you about some things you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones from this devastating illness. Let us be stronger and fight together against breast cancer.

Breast cancer has some very sobering statistics associated with it. Each year there are over 1,000,000 new cases of breast cancer, and nearly half a million die from the illness. Since we can’t outright cure cancer yet, detecting and treating it early is the best way to combat this terrible disease.

At the same time each month, you should do a self-examination of your breasts. Your breasts can change a little during the month, so doing it at the same time will provide consistency. As you get to know your breasts better, you’ll be able to notice a new lump or abnormality. If you do, call your doctor right away and get it examined and get a mammogram. It’s better to be safe now than sorry later.

In this fight against breast cancer, we are much stronger together. Take the time to call your friends and remind them to do a self-examination and visit the doctor. Remind your doctor to talk to other women about breast cancer. Post to social media. The more we do together, the easier this fight will be.

Dr. Charles V. Pledger and our team will be happy to answer any questions you may have about how you can help. Call our office in Provo, Utah, to talk with our team.
