Throughout the course of your life, your hands play a variety of roles. Just like any other part of the body, your hands are subjected to the effects of skin aging. Many people develop brown spots, dry skin, thinning or even develop a bony appearance in their hands as they age. At Charles V. Pledger, MD there are a few things we recommend to help preserve your hands or to rejuvenate their youthful appearance.

Sun exposure one of the most powerful factors for increased skin aging on the hands. Wearing a high SPF sunblock on your hands when you know you’ll be outside, can be a key factor in preventing and even possibly reversing some of the aging effects on your hands.

Many of the same topical creams available at Charles V. Pledger, MD that you use to combat skin aging on the face can also help the skin on your hands. Ideally you want a topical cream that has topical Retin-A, vitamin C.

There are a few procedures offered by Charles V. Pledger, MD that can help rejuvenate the appearance of your hands. Microdermabrasion procedures, photo rejuvenation and intense pulsed light treatments can also help combat spots and other imperfections in the hands. If your hands have developed a bony or scrawny look you could also opt for hyaluronic acid or other dermal filler procedures.

If you have questions about how to prevent or reverse the effects of hand aging, please feel free to call Charles V. Pledger, MD at 801-373-4300 to schedule an appointment.
